Canadian Women Win GOLD!!!

Canada captured a third consecutive Olympic women's ice hockey title on Thursday, defeating arch-rival United States 2-0 in an emotional championship match on home ice.

"It was special to do it at home," Olympic all-time scoring leader Hayley Wickenheiser said after her third gold medal.

"They have all been sensational. This one wasn't pretty but we gutted it out and we got the job done."

Marie-Philip Poulin scored twice in the first period and goaltender Shannon Szabados made 28 saves to bring Canada the victory and bragging rights in a border war arch-rivalry between the sport's only two women's powers.

"We played a great game and this is an incredible moment," Szabados said. "It was unbelievable. I just had to be calm and poised. I just tried to relax and have fun. You always want to be confident out there."

The Americans, two-time reigning world champions, settled for a silver medal while Finland took bronze with an earlier 3-2 overtime triumph over Sweden.

The ladies have raised the ire of the IOC though...they returned to the ice about a half-hour after the medals ceremony to have a private celebration featuring champagne, beer & cigars. From the National Post's "Vancouver Now" blog:

The International Olympic Committee will investigate the behaviour of the Canadian women's hockey players who celebrated their gold medal at the Vancouver Games by drinking alcohol on the ice.

Several Canadian players returned to the ice surface at Canada Hockey Place roughly 30 minutes after their 2-0 win over the U.S. on Thursday night.

The players drank cans of beer and bottles of champagne, and smoked cigars with their gold medals draped around their necks.

Check out the pics:

Congrats ladies! Now, it's time to see if the MEN can do it too!

ATTENTION MIAMI: GUIDO & GUIDETTE ALERT!!!

Look out Miami...you might want to hide the hair gel and tight clothing. The cast of MTV's "Jersey Shore" is headed your way.

According to reports that have surfaced on-line, the cast will film Season 2 in South Beach. Rumor is they'll live in a house off of Lincoln Road. And yes, it will be fully equipped with a tanning bed, duck phone and lots of Italian flags. Filming is slated to start in May.

Talk that "Jersey Shore" might set up shop in sunny Miami started a week ago when TMZ.com uncovered a producer's letter to the owner of Mynt Lounge.

At that time, sources told the website that the network was deciding between Miami and nine other warm cities. Lucky you.

And if you've ever wondered what you'd look like as a Jersey Shore Guido or Guidette, be sure to check out the "Jerzify Yourself" website. When you're done, send me the link (or photo via e-mail) and I'll post them here on the blog!

The Saints Are Marching In...As The CHAMPS!!!

The New Orleans Saints completed their storybook season Sunday night by rallying from an early 10-point deficit to beat the favored Colts 31-17 in Super Bowl XLIV in Sun Life Stadium. The final chapter was basically a summary of their their entire season: the offense dominated down the stretch, and the defense came up with another return for a score.

Drew Brees, who was voted MVP after completing 32-of-39 passes for 288 yards and two scores, found tight end Jeremy Shockey with a 2-yard strike that gave New Orleans a 24-17 lead with 5½ minutes to play; and, two minutes later, cornerback Tracy Porter returned an interception of Peyton Manning 74 yards for a back-breaking touchdown. It was the Saints' ninth defensive score of the season.

It was quite a finish considering New Orleans (16-3) appeared headed for a long night after falling behind 10-0 in the first quarter. But the Saints scored the next 13 points to set up a back-and-forth finish that culminated with New Orleans overcoming a 17-16 fourth-quarter deficit.

This Week On "Hoarders": Lindsay Lohan...?

First there were the shoes – literally hundreds of pairs of them. Then there were the racks and racks of freebie designer dresses. And all the other clothes. Plus the bags. Lindsay Lohan’s house was like the black lagoon, and these things were the monster taking over her life.

So who ya gonna call?

Why, “Insider” correspondent Niecy Nash, host of the Style Network’s hit reality TV series “Clean House,” of course.

“I’m here because I heard you’ve got a whole lot of mayhem and a whole lot of foolishness,” Niecy told the starlet sternly.

“I have a lot of stuff,” Lindsay admitted in a two-part interview that aired on the “Insider” earlier this week.

Clutter has been a lifelong issue for the 23-year-old actress whose turbulent closets are reflected in an equally turbulent personal life, often splashed across the front pages of the tabloids. But Lindsay’s mother Dina notes that the mess isn’t all her daughter’s doing. “It’s not just stuff that she bought,” Dina told People.com. “A lot if it is gifted so it’s not necessarily stuff she buys. Like, a company will send five pairs of jeans.”

And what will become of the excess baggage once it’s out of Lindsay’s life? “We’re donating a lot of it to charity,” said Dina.

Stern: The King Of All Idol?

Shock jock Howard Stern is the latest big name rumoured to be in the running to take over from Simon Cowell on American Idol.

Cowell has headed the talent show's panel since its inception in 2002, but announced last month he will leave the programme when his contract expires in May.

His departure has prompted speculation over who will take his place on the show, with recent guest judges Victoria Beckham and Katy Perry among the rumoured replacements. Actor/singer Jamie Foxx and American Idol host Ryan Seacrest have also been linked to the post, but both denied rumours they are set to step into Cowell's place.

Now controversial radio DJ Stern is rumoured to be in talks with TV executives to join the judging panel alongside Ellen DeGeneres, Kara DioGuardi and Randy Jackson.

A source tells New York Post gossip column Page Six, "(American Idol) is one of the few shows that could compete with Stern's $100 million-a-year Sirius contract, and Idol bosses think he'd be even nastier than Simon."

Stern recently announced he is looking for work when his contract with Sirius XM Radio expires next January, and during his radio show on Wednesday he hinted he has been approached by TV bosses about a new job.

He said, "Recently I was approached by a major TV network to take over a TV show and leave here and do that next year - and I did turn it down. Well, I didn't turn it down. I started to entertain it and think about it, and then I probably think my demands are pretty heavy and they were attempting to negotiate and I said 'you don't have to'."

Happy Valentine's Day...Let's Do It In The Bathroom. What?

I read this story from The Toronto Star this morning and my first thought was, "What...the...eff?"

Mildred's Temple Kitchen is inviting customers to have sex in its bathrooms.

The Valentine's weekend promotion takes uncomfortable but electrifying sex from the close confines of an airplane and transfers it to the unisex stalls of the Hanna Ave. restaurant.

The Liberty Village restaurant proposes its modern bathrooms become one of the "101 places to have sex before you die."

Mildred's has always elicited a certain response. One customer, who didn't want to be named, remembers going to a wedding at the eatery's old location and seeing a copy of the Kama Sutra in the bathroom.

"They invite it," said the customer.

This time, the invitation is explicit. On its website, Mildred's asks: "Have you given any thought to moving beyond the bedroom?

"Check out Mildred's Sexy Bathrooms throughout the weekend of Big Love. You get the picture."

Actually, the picture is clouded by practicalities. Is the restaurant supplying condoms? What about the health risks of body fluids? And who's cleaning up?

"We've always had little trysts in our bathrooms," says chef/co-owner Donna Dooher, pointing to lingering weekday lunches as a popular time. "We're taking it to the next level on Valentine's weekend."

The restaurant's four bathrooms light up outside when occupied. Staff have learned to watch the light flicker twice when two customers enter the same bathroom, usually a few minutes apart.

Toronto Public Health says as long as there's no sex in the kitchen and the restaurant keeps its washrooms clean and sanitized, it's not fussed. "As far as bodily fluids, it's pretty much similar to the other human functions going on in there," says Jim Chan, manager of the food safety program.

Dooher says customers must bring their own condoms but she's hiring a maid to tidy the washrooms that weekend. "She'll be there with her feather duster and cleaning supplies."

At least diners aren't encouraged to use furry handcuffs, part of a $55 "naughty love hamper," while at Mildred's. "Best to savour and enjoy (those) long after you leave the restaurant," the restaurant says.

Of course my second reaction was, "I better make a reservation!" Ha ha!

We Are The World - 25 For Haiti

Several artists and musicians gathered at Jim Henson Studios in Hollywood to record the remake of "We Are the World 2010". In this 2010 remake of We Are the World, there seems to be around 100 music stars taking part in helping sing the remake for the benefit of Haiti.

Among those recording artists who participated in the "We Are The World 2010" remake were: Celine Dion, Usher, Jennifer Hudson, Jamie Foxx, Jeff Bridges, Rob Thomas, Jason Mraz, Wyclef Jean, Justin Bieber, Pink, Adam Levine, Jonas Brothers, Sugarland, Miley Cyrus, Kanye West, Vince Vaughn, Kid Cudi, Drake, LL Cool J, Will.I.Am, Mos Def and Julianne Hough.

We Are The World 2010 producers announced in a written news release that the song, officially titled “We Are the World-25 for Haiti,” will debut on NBC the first night of the Vancouver Winter Olympics on February 12. There was was no word from NBC executives yet confirming the decision.

The song "We Are The World" was originally co-written and produced by Michael Jackson, Lionel Richie and Quincy Jones in 1985, and was organized to raise funds for famine victims in Africa. It was a great event, and it helped send the We Are the World single to #1 in music charts around the world. It even made it on the US Country charts as well as to #1 in the French singles charts.

In case you've forgotten about the original "We Are The World" here it is:

2010 Oscar Nominations

The Golden Globes...The SAG Awards...The Peoples Choice Awards...they all pale in comparison to this: THE OSCARS!!!

Early this morning, live from Hollywood, the nominees for the 2010 Academy Awards were revealed. The big change for 2010? The Academy decided to put 10 films up for the Best Picture Award rather than the traditional 5 (it was felt that this would allow more room for "blockbusters" within the category).

Here are the big ones:

Best Picture: Avatar, The Blind Side, District 9, An Education, The Hurt Locker, Inglorious Basterds, Precious, A Serious Man, Up, Up In The Air

Best Actor: Jeff Bridges (Crazy Heart), George Clooney (Up In The Air), Colin Firth (A Single Man), Morgan Freeman (Invictus), Jeremy Renner (The Hurt Locker)
