The Essence of John Mayer

If you are a celebrity with your own fragrance (or fragrances) you are about to receive a serious verbal beat-down. JOHN MAYER is taking aim at the whole celebrity fragrance phenomenon and he really hits the bullseye. Check out what he has to say about it:

"I'm not diversifying in terms of selling anything. I'm not selling 'John Mayer: the cologne'. If I did it would just smell like sausage and sleep. I don't look at my fans and think, 'Wow, they really like what I do musically. Imagine if I could get 60 more dollars out of them!'

"Who out there really goes, 'You know what, I just (effing) love perfumes. I always have since I was a kid. If I weren't a pop singer, I'd be a perfumier . . .'? At some point I may turn into an (A-hole), but right now I just peddle a CD for $15 dollars every two years."

Honestly, I don't know why so many people think John Mayer is a jerk. I happen to think he's funny. And a lot of his little commentaries on life - this one included - are SPOT-ON.

BREAKING NEWS! Check Out Apple's iPad!!!

Apple on Wednesday unveiled its long-anticipated tablet computer, the "iPad," at a media event in San Francisco. The device, which will cost between $500 and $830 when it ships in coming months, is a half-inch thin, weighs 1.5 lbs., and sports a 9.7-inch display with virtual keyboard, built-in speakers and microphone. "It looks like, well, a big iPhone, pretty much as anticipated," The New York Times wrote on its live blog of the event.

The device will be available with 16GB, 32GB or 64GB of Flash-based storage. For connectivity, it features free AT&T Wi-Fi hotspots, Bluetooth and AT&T 3G service, costing $15 for up to 250MB of data per month, to $29 per month for unlimited data.

Pricing for the iPad will depend on amount of memory and whether the version supports 3G; a 16GB version without 3G costs $500, while the 3G version will sell for $630.

Apple said the iPad offers 10 hours of battery life, with over a month of standby life. On the software front, the iPad will ship with a built-in calendar, address book, Maps application, and iTunes Store.

For the iPad, users can access applications as they would appear on the iPhone, or in automated "pixel-doubled" version that makes the apps run "full screen." The company also said developers will be able to modify their applications to take advantage of the iPad's larger display.

A new iBooks application for the iPad will let users download e-books directly from the iTunes Store in the EPUB format. Apple touted support from publishers including Penguin, HarperCollins, Simon & Schuster, Macmillan and Hachette.

Several of the bloggers covering the event reiterated a potential concern with regard to watching long-form video on a tablet computer: that a user would have to prop the device up on her lap, or else peer down at it resting on a flat surface -- with the alternative being to hold it at an angle for two-plus hours during a movie. A dock accessory announced appears to serve as a prop for the device; Apple will also a physical keyboard accessory for the iPad, that doubles as a battery charger.

Models without 3G will ship in 60 days, while the 3G models will ship in 90; while pre-orders are not yet available, the company is offering an email notification service.

A New Cast Of Fist Pumpers?

Representatives for two members of the "Jersey Shore" cast say that contract negotiations with MTV are going, quote, "smoothly" . . . and are denying a rumor that MTV has threatened to replace anyone who holds out for more money.

Earlier yesterday, "sources" told TMZ that the cast was playing hardball, and attempting to negotiate as a group . . . in order to squeeze more money out of MTV. But MTV told them that their last offer . . . of $10,000 per episode each, plus a $10,000 signing bonus . . . was their FINAL offer. And they had until last night to agree to the terms. Anyone who agreed could stay. Anyone who didn't was GONE.

The entire cast is actually contractually obligated to do a second season, so MTV doesn't have to give them a raise at all. But in situations like this, when a show becomes a runaway hit, the network usually does something to reward the cast.

DJ PAULY D'S manager says the cast is in negotiations with the network, but that he isn't aware of any deadline. And SNOOKI'S manager says that the cast has, quote, "worked closely with each other throughout this," but he's unaware of a, quote, "all for one, one for all" situation.

That being said, would it really be hard to find a new bunch of "Guido's" and "Guidette's"? Not likely.

BREAKING NEWS: Haiti Earthquake...Help Needed NOW!

FROM THE CANADIAN RED CROSS WEBSITE:

On January 12, 2010 a 7.0 magnitude earthquake, followed by several powerful aftershocks, struck off the western coast of Haiti, causing buildings to collapse in Port au Prince and chaos as people fled the damage.

The Canadian Red Cross is accepting donations to support Red Cross relief efforts in Haiti. Donations can be earmarked to the Haiti Earthquake fund. Canadians who wish to give may donate online by clicking here. Donations can also be made by calling toll-free 1-800-418-1111 or by visiting any Red Cross office.

The Canadian Red Cross sent $200,000 immediately to support emergency relief efforts on the ground and is on standby to provide additional emergency assistance. The Red Cross response includes evacuation support, search and rescue efforts and providing shelter and first aid. Local Red Cross volunteers continue to work around the clock to help the many people affected by this disaster.

In-kind donations of food, clothing and other items, while well intentioned, are not the best way to help those in need. There are tremendous processing and transportation costs involved in shipping these items to beneficiaries. Local purchases of food and clothing are more culturally appropriate and effective. Red Cross supplies can be purchased in the immediate area, thereby reducing transportation costs. Cash transfers to the affected region provide the optimum flexibility to our Red Cross colleagues so they can meet the most urgent needs.
